If you want to go through the trouble you can make it quiet safely, these amps beg to be nodded, but I love them because they are the most simple and refined tube amps I have ever owned and I have been playing for 34 years. They have been sold as Laney amps as well as others for 3 times the price. If you're looking to play quiet, the 1W switch will bring it in to a quieter animal but both of the Monoprice amps are extremely simple vintage-style class A amps, the small one with a single ended circuit and the 15 watt in push/pull. Theoretically as long as you are driving an 8 ohm load you could disconnect the internal speaker and use it exclusively to drive an external cabinet but running it just for headphones would probably best be accomplished with an attenuator. You can push some decent cabinets with lower wattage Celestion and similar speakers with the 15 watts of power, but be sure the impedance of your external cabinet is at least 8 ohms (for instance, two cabs with 4 ohm speakers in series for 2 16 ohm cabinets, then run the cabinets in parallel to get 8 ohms, or a cabinet with 4 8 ohm speakers wired in series-parallel (2 8 ohm for 16 ohm on each side, sides wired in parallel for 8 ohms) to avoid damage. The output is a powered connection to an external cabinet, and is in parallel. FWIW I have no affiliation with the manufacturer beyond being a very satisfied customer. ![]() Nothing else is remotely as good a value. You simply cannot go wrong getting one of these amps. In all fairness we are unapologetic tweakers so a few guys tried other speakers and NOS tubes and such and mostly liked it even more but already dug the stock model. On top of all this I found out about this amp through an online guitar gear forum mostly of professionals like me and at least a dozen I know of bought them and without a single exception all were equally knocked out. I'd consider buying a second one to run wet/dry or in stereo for a huge Live gig stage sound but after the first week, my Son "borrowed" it. I boiught one just to see how good it could be and was shocked at how well thought out and executed it is and above all, how great it sounds. Performance quality? It sounds and behaves way better than it has any right to at the price and I build my own tube amps and have modded and repaired amps for global greats, having made a living in the Music Business for decades. ![]() They replaced the amp AND didn't require he ship the damaged one back. In fact there's a YouTube review from a man in Australia whose Monoprice 1/15, 1x12 Combo arrived with shipping damage to the case. I'm not certain but I think it is assembled in China but what would you expect and why would you care? Monoprice has an excellent reputation for customer support. I hope i can answer in a manner to address any reservations you may have.
